Why This Guide Exists
Understanding the Language of the Gulmaroke Interface
The Gulmaroke platform uses a consistent set of terms to describe its components and processes. This guide explains each term in plain language so that new and prospective users can orient themselves before engaging with the review interface.
Core Terms
Classification category
A classification category is a named grouping within the platform. Items are assigned to categories based on their content attributes. Each category has a defined scope — a description of the type of information it contains and the criteria used to include an item within it. Users navigate the review interface primarily by moving between categories.
Review interface
The review interface is the part of the Gulmaroke platform that users interact with directly. It presents classified items in a structured, browsable format. The interface is organised around categories and displays individual records within each category. Users can view a summary of each record or expand it to see its full classification details.
Record
A record is the structured representation of a single item that has been classified by the system. Each record includes a set of fields that capture the item's classification attributes, the category or categories it has been assigned to, the date it was processed, and any notes added by the team during manual review.
Classification log
The classification log is a timestamped history of the actions taken on a record during its processing. It shows the sequence of classification steps applied, which rules were invoked, whether a manual override was performed, and the final category assignment. The log is available to users with the appropriate access level.
Access level
An access level is the scope of visibility assigned to a user following an approved access request. It determines which categories and records are visible in that user's review interface. Users with a higher access level can see more categories. Access levels are assigned by the Gulmaroke team and can be adjusted through a further enquiry if a user's needs change.
Enquiry
An enquiry is a submission made through the Connect form. Enquiries may be access requests, classification queries, general questions, or technical questions. The Gulmaroke team reviews all enquiries before responding. An enquiry is not a binding request and does not commit either party to a particular outcome.
Unclassified queue
Items that are received by the system but do not match any category criteria with sufficient confidence are placed in the unclassified queue. The team reviews these items and either assigns them to an appropriate category manually, updates the classification rules to capture similar items in future, or determines that the item falls outside the platform's scope.
Navigating the Interface
Category list
The category list is the primary navigation element of the review interface. It displays all categories available at your access level. Selecting a category takes you to the records assigned to that category. The category list reflects your current access level, so users with different access levels will see different lists.
Record summary view
The record summary view displays a condensed version of each record's key fields, allowing users to scan multiple records efficiently. From the summary view, users can open a record to see its full details, including the complete classification log and all available fields.
Filter controls
The review interface includes filter controls that allow users to narrow the records displayed within a category. Filters can be applied to classification date ranges, record attributes, and other fields as available. Filters do not change the underlying data; they only affect what is displayed during the current session.
Classification Process Terms
Classification rule
A classification rule is a defined condition used by the system to determine whether an item matches a particular category. Rules are maintained by the Gulmaroke team and are not individually exposed to users. The classification log records which rules were applied to a specific record, though it does not reproduce the full text of the rule.
Confidence score
The confidence score is an internal indicator of how well an item matches a category's classification rules. Items with high confidence scores are classified and made available in the review interface automatically. Items with lower confidence scores are flagged for team review before their category assignment is finalised. The confidence score is an internal metric and is not displayed in the review interface.
Manual override
A manual override occurs when a team member reassigns or removes an item from a category, correcting an automated classification decision. Overrides are recorded in the classification log with the reason and the team member's reference. Users can see that an override occurred, but not the identity of the individual team member who performed it.
